Stock Controlled products can be held three different ways that affect how the Stock Holdings are managed, and how stock checks are calculated.

1. Depot Stock Controlled Products without locations

If a product is set to be Depot Stock Controlled, you can set it to be held in one or several locations.  If a product is not allocated to any locations it is assumed it is just stocked at the Depot level.  When a stock count is done the product is counted at the Depot level and that Product Stock Location has a type of Counted.

2. Depot Stock Controlled Products counted in child locations

If a product is set to be Depot Stock Controlled, you can set it to be held in one or several locations.  If a product is allocated to one or several locations it is assumed it is just stocked at the Depot level, but counted at the locations.  When a stock count is done the product is counted at all the child locations.

With this setup the Depot (parent) location has a Stock count type of Aggregated, where it is adding together the counts from any child locations that are being counted.

If there are any mid location levels between the parent and the child locations they will show as Not Counted.

The child locations where the product is counted will show as Non Controlled.

3. Location Controlled Products

If a product is set to be Location Stock Controlled, you can set it to be held in one or several locations and each location is its owned counted and managed stock holding.

With this setup the Depot (parent) location has a Stock count type of Calculated, where it is adding together the counts from any child locations that are stocked/counted.

If there are any mid location levels between the parent and the child locations they will also show as Calculated.

The child locations where the product is counted will show as Counted.

Product Stock Locations View

There is a view in Stock > Product Stock Locations, which lists all the product locations and their Count Type.
