What are On Going and Stock Based Lots?
Working with the different types of Lot stock holdings in Merchanter
Table of Contents
When working with stock Lots there are 2 different ways in which they can be setup. These are “Stock Based” and “On Going”.
On Going Lots
A Lot which is “On Going” is a reusable Lot where stock moves in/out and can only be removed manually. It will remain live regardless of whether there is stock in it or not.
This would typically be used for tracking things like certified products. For example a timber company may want to know the total amount of a product they have, but then broken down into the amount FSC and PEFC certified within that. By setting up two on going Lots you can track the total timber and the amount by each certification type.
Stock Based Lots
Stock based Lots expect to receive an initial stock quantity, which is then used, either in a single movement, or steadily over time. The "Stock Based” Lot will then automatically archive when all the stock has been moved from it.
Setting a Lot type
Setting up a “Stock Based” Lot is similar to setting up a “On Going” Lot, the location, Lot name and description are setup as normal but you would now choose “Stock Based” as the Lot type. This is shown in the example below. Once you have confirmed that the information you have added is correct for this Lot you can click on the green “Confirm add to Lot button” to create the Lot.
